Ahead of their delegates’ conference tomorrow (June 11), the National Unity Platform (NUP) headquarters in Kavule, Kampala, has been raided by police and other security forces for the third time this year.
The police who were following one of the aspirants’ vehicles broke through the headquarters’ gates at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday and began shooting at the air as party members were returning forms indicating their interest in different positions ahead of the upcoming general election in 2026.
Mr. Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, claimed not to be aware of the incident.
“I will get back to you as soon as I have that report, which I have not yet received. In a brief phone call, Mr. Onyango stated, “I am not even sure where that particular one happened,” before hanging up.
“We are not sure why we have been attacked again because can you imagine that they said that the car that the aspirant was driving in looks like the one that Gen. Museveni always uses when inspecting the guard of honor,” stated Mr. David Lewis Rubongoya, the secretary general of the opposition party. We question why we are constantly attacked, particularly before our party activities.
Using his X platform, President Museveni’s son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who serves as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), stated a few days later: “I went into Kabobi’s office the other day and discovered condoms and marijuana.I’m heading to his house now! We will kill anyone who tries to fight!
Mr. Kyagulanyi stated Tuesday night that the altercation had resulted in injuries to a few of their supporters.
“Just now, the police and military conducted a raid on the NUP headquarters and opened fire. A number of fellows have been hurt, and others have been taken into custody. “This crime has not been explained,” he wrote on his X platform.
One of the candidates for mayor of Masajja division, Ms. Sarry Nakato, stated, “This activity has been going on, and I came this morning with other comrades.” Regretfully, this issue is viewed as a national security threat. We hope to have the opportunity to freely communicate with our people and address some of their concerns.
After supporters of the opposition party organized a parade in honor of their president, Mr. Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, who was celebrating his birthday in February of this year, security forces raided the party’s offices.
Following the raid, NUP leaders reported that they had lost millions of dollars’ worth of property and money, and that security personnel had vandalized their doors, windows, and cameras.

At the party’s extraordinary meeting tomorrow, June 11, new leaders will be chosen to lead the nation’s largest opposition party for a further five-year term.
Party president and his aides, secretary general, national treasurer, spokesperson, and deputy are among the roles that will be up for election.
The majority of the positions, including the party president, are uncontested, according to party sources who claimed they were not permitted to speak to the media.
“The positions that have been referred to the delegates conference tomorrow are those that people were unable to harmonize; otherwise, the majority of these positions are unopposed.”
