Museveni speaks out about the chaotic, bloody NRM elections.

In his remarks regarding the just concluded National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries, President Yoweri Museveni denounced the bribery, violence, and manipulation of the results that tainted the election.

The President congratulated the NRM party members on the successful July 17, 2025, primaries, in a statement issued Sunday evening. Approximately 9.22 million members participated, or roughly 50% of the party’s 18.5 million confirmed members.

“It’s not bad that 9.22 million members of our Party will attend the NRM Primaries on July 17, 2025, a working day and midweek. In a statement, President Museveni congratulated them.

He did, however, vehemently denounce instances of electoral malpractice, such as bribing voters, tampering with voter registration, altering results, and using violence.

He emphasized that “all the lovers of the NRM and Uganda must condemn these because they are politically and ideologically wrong.”

The president clarified that electing leaders is meant to address issues that the people can resolve.

If the appropriate steps were taken, Omukyeno’s issue could be resolved. Using a local analogy to emphasize his point, he stated, “The goal of electing leaders is to rationally choose leaders and a Party that can kukyenuura (solve) our mikyeno (solvable problems).”

President Museveni outlined the party’s accomplishments, which include initiatives for wealth creation, economic liberalization, security, and vaccination.

“The kukyenuura occurs in areas where the NRM programs are effectively implemented. Do you want some examples? They are as follows: Security of people and property, the eradication of polio, measles, and other diseases due to vaccination, and economic liberalization brought in a large number of investors, all of which aided in the swift resolution of ebura, or shortages, of the so-called essential commodities,” he said.

The president gave concrete instances of effective initiatives, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), which has garnered positive feedback from families who have used it. He also spoke about the party’s initiatives to create wealth in order to eradicate poverty and enhance Ugandans’ quality of life.

The president promised to bring charges against anyone involved in electoral fraud, beginning with those who manipulated the results.

“We are going to get you if you changed the outcomes. He emphasized that the voting process was transparent and that each village knows who voted for each candidate and how many votes they received. “It is not just the registrar that knows the results village by village,” he cautioned.

In addition, he pledged to investigate claims of oversized voter registration in certain regions and called for investigation.
