The massive gold mine was found in Pingjiang County, near a huge national park. China is already the largest gold producer in the world, and made up 10% of the global output in 2023.
China is still not fully self sufficient in gold usage. So far this year, China has used ~741 tons of gold; However, of that, only 268 tons was produced by China, meaning they still rely on imports. This gold mine will mean China may soon be able to be fully self sufficient in gold, meaning it will be hard for the West to damage China economically.
No other countries have spoke on this yet, although it’s likely the US will have something to say. However reports say this gold reserve is so big that it could affect largely the global price of gold.
