Referee Michael Oliver sent off Liverpool manager Arne Slot immediately following the Merseyside derby on February 12. Slot and his assistant Spike Hulshoff have been given two-game touchline bans and will not be allowed to play in Liverpool’s home matches against Southampton and Newcastle.
Following his red card at the conclusion of the Merseyside derby earlier this month, Liverpool manager Arne Slot was given a £70,000 fine in addition to a two-game touchline ban.
He will miss Liverpool’s match against Newcastle on Wednesday night and their upcoming Premier League match against Southampton at home on March 8 due to the ban. On Tuesday, Liverpool was notified of the FA’s decision.
Following the dramatic 2-2 draw at Everton, Slot was spotted shaking hands with referee Michael Oliver. The Dutchman apparently spoke to the official before being sent off.
After the match was over, Slot was found to have behaved in “an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behavior towards both the match referee and an assistant referee,” according to the FA. The charge was accepted by the Liverpool manager.
When the final whistle blew, Slot’s assistant Sipke Hulshoff was also a straight red. He received a £7,000 fine and a two-match touchline suspension.
He behaved in “an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official after being sent off,” according to the FA.
Following his clash with Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones received a second yellow card and was also shown a red card.
Due to the fact that their players “did not behave in an improper and/or provocative way following the final whistle,” Everton and Liverpool were also fined £65,000 and £50,000, respectively.
