Dignitaries, friends, and family honor the late Rajiv Ruparelia.

Rajiv Ruparelia, a young businessman and rally star who tragically died on May 3 at the age of 35, was buried today at the Hindu Crematorium in Lugogo, where family, friends, and dignitaries gathered.

Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, a billionaire businessman, paid a heartfelt homage to his late son at the crematorium, describing Rajiv as a lively, talented, and kind person who made a lasting impression everywhere he went.

I am incredibly proud to have raised a son like Rajiv, but I also carry the unfathomable pain of loss as a father. His lively energy, which could light up a room, inspire everyone he met, and fill a gathering, is what I will always remember most.

He also spoke of Rajiv’s quiet but significant dedication to aiding impoverished kids, pointing out how his son helped them with their schooling from elementary school through college by offering them not only money but also guidance and support.

The effects of Rajiv’s passing went well beyond his immediate family. Speaker of Parliament Anita Among expressed the “deep sadness” that President and First Lady Janet Museveni felt over the young businesswoman’s death in a statement that she gave on the president’s behalf.

Mama and I would like to express our sincere condolences to Dr. and Mrs. Sudhir Ruparelia on behalf of the Government of Uganda, the NRM party, and myself for the loss of your beloved son.
