Ministers and MPs select NRM nomination forms in greater numbers.

As more ministers, MPs, and other party supporters selected nomination forms to run in the forthcoming internal elections for parliamentary and LC5 posts, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party secretariat was a flurry of activity yesterday.

Notable individuals included Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuzi, State Minister for ICT Godfrey Kabbyanga, and Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba, who in 2021 lost the Mityana Woman MP seat to Joyce Bagala of the National Unity Platform (NUP). In order to improve local livelihoods, Mr. Kabbyanga stated that his main goal would be to increase trade by strategically developing the Mpondwe border post.

Unexpectedly, Gen. Henry Tumukunde, a former Security Minister who ran against President Museveni in the 2021 presidential election, also filed to run for the Rukungiri Municipality parliamentary seat.

Approaches have evolved along with the times. He informed reporters, “I’ve made the decision to go back home and apply for a mandate to serve in Parliament.” Charles Mwanguhya, a former journalist for the Nation Media Group, has also entered the race after completing the necessary paperwork in Burahya County, Kabarole District. “I want to promote national interests using Burahya as a platform. Burahya is not an exception to the problems plaguing the entire nation, Mr. Mwanguhya stated. Hillary Oremo Odwee, a youthful former Makerere University 2023 guild candidate, entered the race as well, aiming to win the NRM ticket for the Northern Uganda Youth MP position.

“Our young people in West Nile, Lango, Acholi, and Karamoja are struggling with lack of opportunity, idleness, and exploitation. “I want to provide leadership that tackles these issues,” he declared. Enock Nyongore, the MP for Nakaseke North, also collected forms in an attempt to win reelection. He promised to finish important development projects, such as a water-for-production system and a working A-Level school. When the people who started them leave office, a lot of initiatives fail. “I wish to maintain continuity,” he said.

The Rukiga

Mr. Patrick Kiconco Katabaazi announced his candidacy in Rukiga County, promising to prioritize people-centered governance and social and economic rights.

Other people who picked up forms were Mr. Herbert Ariko from Gweri County, Soroti District, and Dr. Sam Oledo from Moroto Municipality. June 2–15 is when the two-week nomination process takes place. To choose the party’s flag bearers for the 2026 elections, the successful candidates will be nominated in internal elections on July 16.
